Parish church dates to AD 1030 when placed under patronage of Benedictine monks of Mont St Michel by Robert Duke of Normandy. Centre for the Guernsey Western Parishes. Services conducted in French until 1927. Guernesiais nickname for residents: etcherbaots (beetles).
