Story
One of 15 loophole towers built 1778-1779 to deter French attacks during the American Revolutionary War. Percy Ferguson's family lived in the tower from the 1860s and ran a ferry service between Fermain Bay and St Peter Port after WWII. Bequeathed to the National Trust of Guernsey in 2002 by Percy Ferguson. Renovation by CCD Architects and RG Phillips began in 2017, opening as self-catering accommodation in Spring 2019.
Fermain Tower is a historic loophole tower on the shore of Fermain Bay in St Martin, built 1778–1779 as one of 15 towers to deter French attacks. Owned by the National Trust of Guernsey and managed by La Barbarie Hotel, it was renovated by CCD Architects and opened as self-catering accommodation in 2019. It sleeps 2 across three floors plus a roof terrace, holds Visit Guernsey Quality Assured Gold accreditation, and requires a minimum stay of 2 nights. Guests must be 25 or over. —
