Story
Founded 1927 as ladies choir by Edith Noel. Male section added 1931 (40 voices). Closed during WWII, restarted February 1946. First BBC broadcast 1950. Annual Christmas Concerts since mid-1960s. Long tradition of Gilbert and Sullivan productions. Performed in Vienna (2005) and Prague (2007) at international choir festivals.
Guernsey Glee Singers — also known as 'The Glees' — is Guernsey's oldest established choir, founded in 1927 by Edith Noel as a ladies ensemble. A registered charity (CH578) with approximately 50 mixed-voice (SATB) members, it requires no auditions and no music-reading ability. Repertoire spans classical, jazz, musical theatre, swing, and Gilbert and Sullivan. The choir rehearses Monday evenings during term time at Les Capelles Methodist Church Community Centre in St Sampson. —
