Part of Guernsey Botanical Trust LBG
Story
Originally part of the de Saumarez family estate; acquired by States of Guernsey in 1937 after death of 4th Lord de Saumarez; fell into disrepair until restoration began in 2006
Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden is a volunteer-run heritage attraction in the Castel, managed by the Guernsey Botanical Trust LBG. Restored from 2006 at Saumarez Park, it cultivates heritage fruit, vegetables and flowers from the 1875-1900 period, with varieties from Guernsey, Jersey and Normandy. Three restored glasshouses — Lemon House, Orchard House and Vine House — form a 170ft south-facing run. The garden offers free admission, guided tours, educational programmes and a seasonal shop, La Choppe. —
