Founded in 1980 as Guernsey Air Search by Captain Roger Dadd and colleagues from Guernsey Airlines. First aircraft was a Piper Aztec on loan from Guernsey Airlines, later purchased with Lions Club funding. Aircraft cost over GBP 2.7 million; FLIR camera cost GBP 240,000; hangar cost GBP 150,000.
Channel Islands Air Search is a voluntary airborne search and rescue charity founded in 1980, operating 24/365 across 4,000 square miles of Channel Island waters and the adjacent French coast. Based at a purpose-built hangar at Guernsey Airport in Forest, the charity flies a BN Islander aircraft named Lions' Pride equipped with search radar, FLIR camera, night vision, and an air-droppable life raft. Staffed entirely by volunteers, CIAS responds to 30–40 calls per year and holds Guernsey charity number CH40 and Jersey charity number 330. —
