Story

St John in Guernsey established 1882. Ambulance service began 2 June 1936 from Rohais with volunteer staff and a second-hand Talbot ambulance. Became Guernsey's sole ambulance service by 1938. Continued operating throughout German Occupation (1940-1945). Became autonomous Commandery of the Order of St John on 1 July 2012.

St John Ambulance and Rescue Service is Guernsey's only emergency ambulance service, operating as a charitable company on behalf of the States of Guernsey since 1936, providing ambulance cover across the Bailiwick including Alderney. It provides 24-hour accident and emergency cover, paramedic response, non-emergency patient transfer, and marine ambulance (Flying Christine III), handling approximately 7,000 calls per year. Around 50 staff operate five frontline ambulances, rapid response cars, and a marine ambulance.
