Story

The Court of Alderney has operated since at least the 13th century. Governed by the Government of Alderney Law 1948.

Court of Alderney is the principal court and administrative registry for the island of Alderney. It hears civil matters with unlimited jurisdiction and criminal cases up to 12 months' imprisonment or a £10,000 fine, referring more serious matters to the Royal Court of Guernsey. The Court Office also operates the company registry, registry of beneficial ownership, land registry, births/marriages/deaths register, liquor licensing, and legal aid information. Governed by the Government of Alderney Law 1948, its history dates to at least the 13th century.
