Position dates to at least the late sixteenth century. Since 2008, appointed by the Royal Court with consultation of the Policy & Resources Committee.
HM Sheriff, formally the Office of His Majesty's Sheriff and Sergeant, is a statutory office of the Royal Court of Guernsey operating from the Royal Court House in St Peter Port. It executes court orders, serves summonses, enforces judgment debts and fines, carries out evictions, and handles petty debt recovery. The office also leads Royal Court processions on Liberation Day and Remembrance Day, maintains order at States of Deliberation sittings, and declares Royal Proclamations. The position dates to at least the sixteenth century. —
