The Ivy Gates Archway

One of only two such double-arched entrances surviving in Guernsey, the other being Les Blancs Bois Archway at Rue Cohu, Castel. These were constructed as status symbols to display the driveway or 'cache' to a house of quality. Both arches now appear very low because adjacent road levels have been built up over the years.

The Ivy Gates Archway is a 17th-century double granite archway at the top of the Rohais, St Peter Port, built around 1640 as the entrance to Les Granges de Beauvoir Manor. Constructed from local grey granite, it features a larger arch for carriages and a smaller arch for pedestrians, with the De Beauvoir family coat of arms at its apex. One of only two surviving double-arched entrances in Guernsey, the archway was gifted to the National Trust of Guernsey in 1967 by the heirs of Henrietta Herries and designated a Protected Monument in 1981.
