Story

Earliest recorded religious building on site dates to 1020; current building largely completed by 1466 with spire and stair turret finished 1466-1473. Scene of the 1556 trial of the Guernsey Martyrs. Church has been Anglican since 1662. Regimental colours of the Town Regiment of the Royal Guernsey Militia (1337-1946) and Royal Guernsey Light Infantry are hung inside. Guinness World Records lists it as the closest church to a pub in Great Britain (18 inches).

Town Church is the Anglican parish church of St Peter Port and Guernsey's Civic Church, dedicated to St Peter the Apostle and Martyr. Built largely by 1466 on a site in religious use since at least 1020, it holds a protected building designation (PB712) and is registered as charity CH97. Services include Sunday and weekday worship, civic services for the Island of Guernsey, weddings, baptisms, funerals, and choral music. The church houses the Liberation Bells — the heaviest ring in the Channel Islands — and a three-manual pipe organ listed on the National Pipe Organ Register. —
